Elbows, cuffs, and the second buttonhole down. In that order, every year.
Knitwear almost never fails at the seam - it fails where the arm folds against a desk. So we now knit the Beckett with a doubled yarn through the elbow panel, which adds forty pence and about four years.
Leather fails at the pocket mouth, because that is where a hand goes in with keys in it. The Rhône is now bar-tacked at both corners.
Buttonholes go because thread abrades faster than cloth. Nothing clever to do there - we just re-work them, free, and always will.
